Finding yourself…

Warning… philosophy and potential soap box ahead.  Read on at your own risk.

For the past few years I’ve been thinking about what it means to “find yourself’.  You know, to be at peace with who you are, to look in the mirror and say, “yeah, that’s me, I like that person!”

The nerditorium is becoming a place where more and more of our staff (and innocent bystanders) and starting to find themselves and a pattern is emerging.  The patter goes: find your tribe > find your audience > find yourself.

The tribe – we’re social creatures.  One of our fundamental needs is socialization.  It’s part of how we work as humans.  If we spend too much time alone, depression follows.  Yet in our modern world, we live relatively isolated lives.  People typically work with 1 set of people, live with a different set and often play with a different set.  People don’t need each other any more, and with this modern day situation, tribes have disappeared.  The nerditorium is a tribe by design. We’ve placed people with similar aspirations/goals under the same roof and given them space to collaborate & create.   We live together, work together and thrive together.  When a challenge arises, we collaborate to find solutions.  When we crush a challenge, we celebrate together.  Ask anyone of our nerds and they’ll tell you, being part of this tribe makes life gooooooooooooood.  That… and we take mandatory 1+ month vacations between gigs keeps people from getting stir crazy ;^)

The audience – being appreciated feels good, especially when it’s from someone outside your tribe.  We recently launched a film project (People in Motion) and have had a massive outpouring of support from people outside our normal community.  This feels really, really, really good. To have your work be supported and promoted by people who genuinely LOVE what you’ve done is an amazing feeling.

Finding yourself – with a tribe and an audience we seem to be finding ourselves relatively easily. We share core values with our tribe, feel valued and appreciated by our audience and feel there’s purpose to our lives, that we’re make the world a better place and doing it with people we enjoy.

That’s all I’ve got for now…

Cheers,

Ced
